Claire
It was financing class and we were learning about sports salaries.
“The average NBA player makes 4.5 million and the average WNBA 72 thousand.” Mr. Like said as he wrote it on the whiteboard. Then I shot my hand in the air.
“Excuse me, Mr. Like ,but why are women paid less. If society says we are equal then why are women getting paid less in sports still.” I asked furiously. I’m sorry but women not getting treated equal is infuriating. All of a sudden Lucas, the most adored kid in school, spoke up.
“It’s because girls sports are boring. Their is no toughness in it. They just prance around pretending to be as good as guys and trying to throw the ball.” Everyone snickered and the girls sighed as Lucas shook the hair out of his face. I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
“I could take you any day and have you crying at the end like a baby or would you be too afraid to ruin you perfect hair.” I said putting quotes around perfect hair as I turned to stare down his electric blue eyes.
“Oh please, you would be too afraid to ruin your nails or makeup.” He retorted back. I glared at him. Everyone just stared at us, looking from one person to another. Finally Mr. Like intervened.
“Enough you two. Class dismissed.” As I walked out of the classroom, Lucas caught up to me.
“Hey Claire, we don’t have to go play each other. I know you were just flirting. Why don’t we catch a movie after school or something.” He said as I grabbed my books out of my locker. I slammed the locker door.
“Are you seriously that conceited. I seriously could beat you in any sport. You know not all girls are into you and I asked the principal if the boys basketball team, which you are on of course, can play the girls and the whole school can watch and guess what he said, he said yes. You better bring your tissues because you’re going to be crying after this game. So see you tonight in the gym. And by the way, I would rather gouge out my eyes with a plastic spork and bury myself alive then go out with you.” I said this as I turned around and left the building shouldering Lucas and his friends as I left.
~Love's Competition
By: Grace
I am very sorry to announce that this story, Love's Competition, will not be continued with a chapter 2, 3, 4, or any others. The author, Grace, did not like her writing. I am leaving it up on here if you would like to read it. But there is good news! She, Grace, will be starting a new series called Reckless Love. It is being posted Thursday (November 23, 2017) because it has a Thanksgiving theme tied in...the first chapter at least! We both hope you like it!!
